In the world of computing, servers refer to programs or devices that are made to provide functionality for other programs and devices known as clients. All servers are not made to provide the same kind of functionality, some are built to manage the data and others are built to help in sharing the date between the clients. A single server will provide functionality to different client devices but clients are free to make use of different servers. Web servers, mail servers, database servers and game servers are examples of servers to mention but a few .
Servers are very essential in the world of computing and another thing about them is that they are very delicate and they need to be handled with proper care, their storage also has a lot to be considered. The storage unit of servers should allow protection from overheating and any other kind of threat. Server racks are equipment that help in keeping the servers in good condition to help them function properly while in the storage unit. Server racks and other storage equipment is not one to get blindly from the manufacturer or the retailer for that matter, one needs to have the following criteria in mind. Simple dimensions have to be observed, the width, the height , and the depth of the servers has to be factored in. The type of rack also has to be considered, the common type is the four stand rack while there is another option of the two stand with which one has to be crafty with the center of gravity when putting them up.
Server racks that come with mesh doors will allow the free flow of air but those made with block doors will not so much support the flow of air , it’s reasonable to do away with the doors so as to have servers work without breaking down. Cable management system should be a key consideration because servers will need cable connections to be linked, the rear part of racks should be made to accommodate cables.
Digital communications, LAN systems and other basic exchange of data will mostly utilize Ethernet cables. Ethernet cables come in two types, category five and category six, the former is the most common found in offices and businesses, and it carries a variety of signals and data. The category six is nothing unusual in the functioning of the cat 5 Ethernet cables but it’s just different in that it facilitates high speed data transmission rates.
